  • What could cause bleeding from the stoma site on neck after voice box removal 7 months later?

Posted by admin on February 9th, 2010 and filed under removal boxes | 3 Comments »

My dad woke up the other night bleeding from his neck (stoma) site where he had throat cancer. It finally stopped but should he be worried about something that caused that or could it just be the stoma just rubbed something and caused bleeding. that is very scary. They almost had to call 911. thanks. It has been 7 months since the surgery.

It’s time to go back to the ENT who did the laryngectomy. Bleeding can be from a popped blood vessel that happens with paroxysmal coughing, or from recurrence of the cancer.

I suggest you have it checked out, although it can be normal…better safe than sorry.

ALL abnormal bleeding should always be checked out as soon as possible.

      Hope he is ok
