  • Can I convert a water softener to a whole house charcoal filter?

Posted by admin on January 28th, 2010 and filed under house removals | 1 Comment »

I have an old water softener from a previous house. My new house needs a whole house charcoal filter. Can I change out the softener media for activated charcoal and use the same filter for whole house removal of taste etc.? If so, what steps are required?
Thanks for offering your experience. RO really won’t work for me because of my water volume. Am hoping to be able to exchange the media for charcoal in a traditional softener.

I tried to do the same thing when I bought my house, but ended up replacing the reverse osmosis filter system under the kitchen sink for about $100.
