Do I need to get permission to park a van (house removal) in the street for an hour?

Friday, February 5th, 2010

I need to park a home removal van on a street in Bexleyheath for an hour or so while I unload it. Do I need to get permission to do this? Who do I need to ask?

I would think you could call you’re local police dept. and they would give you a permit of some kind…..

What is the approximate cost of a professional house removal in the UK? 3 bedroomed at moment and moving to?

Monday, February 1st, 2010

similar 2 miles away.

Have never hired in the pros before and wondered was was a norm price? As it is would not know if £300 or £3000 was appropriate! Thanks x

If you allow about £500-£800 then you won’t be far off.

This may seem a lot compared with some of the answers but there are always other costs on top of the Remover’s quotes. Some things may have to go into storage for a day or so while you find space in your new house.
Some things may need special packing.

The diesel for their pantechnicon will be at least 20% more expensive than it was two months ago. They’ll pass that on.

Can I convert a water softener to a whole house charcoal filter?

Thursday, January 28th, 2010

I have an old water softener from a previous house. My new house needs a whole house charcoal filter. Can I change out the softener media for activated charcoal and use the same filter for whole house removal of taste etc.? If so, what steps are required?
Thanks for offering your experience. RO really won’t work for me because of my water volume. Am hoping to be able to exchange the media for charcoal in a traditional softener.

I tried to do the same thing when I bought my house, but ended up replacing the reverse osmosis filter system under the kitchen sink for about $100.

Monday, January 25th, 2010

hi where can i buy House Removal Boxes in London i want new ones clean but what store sell those boxes? does WHSmith sell removal boxes?

Argos now sell packs of them.

is there a company in the uk (mainly wales) that does house removals but also buys the furniture from you?

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

we are moving house as soon as possible, but we need the extra cash so are seling up everything we can in our house, is there a company that buys household funriture?

You will get more money if you sell it privately. Businesses have to sell it on and make a profit so they will only pay you a fraction.

Have you looked for an auction house near you?? Have just moved from a 3 bed semi to a 2 bed bungalow and got rid of loads of furniture that way

Good Luck

Moving and Storage

Saturday, January 16th, 2010

No matter what kind of house you are moving in, there is this one problem that you will surely encounter when moving from one place to another. If you will soon be living alone in a small apartment, then maybe it’s a good idea to sell some of your possessions. With the limited area of your apartment, you can’t bring in the old, unnecessary stuff you have.

To lessen the burden of moving to another home, you will need reliable movers who can do removals and storage for you. Australian removals and storage companies provide a two-fold service: one is they help you get your stuff out of your old home and the other is that they keep your extra things in a safe place. Australian removals are always a great help to people who do not know what to do with all the stuff that do not have a place in their new flat.

Aside from seeking the helps of Australian Removals and Storage Company, you might also be interested in trying some effective packing tips which can help you set foot on the right track. If you are not that busy, taking care of your removals and storage tasks will lessen the cost of moving you will have to pay.

If you are doing your own DIY removals and storage, the first thing you will have to do is divide your things into two categories: the things you are keeping, and the things you will have to let go. Hiring a removals and storage company do not mean that you should depend on them to do all the sorting for you. Apparently, they do not own the things that will be moved. They do not have any idea which things should be moved and which things should be left out.

Make sure that the Australian Removals and storage company you will choose is known to be trustworthy and reliable. One way to ensure that an Australian Removal company is trustworthy is seeing if they are transparent. One instance of transparency is when a removals company allows you to access your possessions any time you want. An honest and trustworthy Australian removals and storage company does not allow anyone to access your stuff, only you should be accessing your stuff and no one else.

Since 1978, Walkers Moving and Storage friendly staff have been helping hundreds of Australian Families and businesses move with confidence every year.

They offer a range of high quality moving services designed to make sure your move is as smooth as possible from executive office relocations to the smallest home moves, and storage, nationwide and internationally.

If I hire a removals company to help move house, how much packing etc. do I have to do myself?

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

Obviously I don’t mind what packing I have to do, but I want to know whether I can just leave things for them or whether they’ll expect a certain amount done by the time they get there.

I did this once. The WILL pack everything. They even packed ashtrays with cigarette butts. The only thing I will tell you is that they won’t insure anything you pack, that they move. We took our clocks and some valuable antiques, and left the rest to them.

If you pack your own clothes and linens, and leave them for the movers, you will save money. Depnds on what you want to do.
